EMMA REKINDLES THE OLD FLAMES

Don't you just hate it when all your best friends have girlfriends and you don't?

Only recently, one of my friends just hooked up with Emma. It sounds awkward but the thing is, Emma is my former love interest. We used to have our thing back in high school when we were just young, dumb and broke, what the American pop star Khalid sings about. Sadly it never went through.
Five years later, I am seated at the Lenox hotel looking at her as she caresses her boyfriend's arm. There is a way that women mark their territory whenever they feel there is a strong threat from an attractive woman around. Emma was clearly doing that but to the wrong audience. Assembled at this prime hotel in Kericho, she was the only lady here at our table. It only meant one thing, that she was trying to make me feel bad.
Where we had lunch.

A Taxing moment

"Rasta, when are you going to get a girl?" Sam threw the first salvo at me. I could see Emma's eyes light up. Tom just sipped his tea while waiting for the kebabs to come.
"God's plan is the best. Right now I am focused on my job." Emma suddenly released her grip and dropped her hands on the round table. I tried to keep my focus on Sam just to avoid her full bust. it was a taxing moment for me.
"So, what exactly do you mean?"
"He means it ain't one of his priorities now. Finally!!" Tom blurted out as the waiter brought him his favorite kebabs. The bill followed sooner. We all ate in silence save for the movement of the patrons and waiters. The one pm news was also starting.

To Go or Not to Go?

Emma could not keep her eyes off me. I could not tell if it was my new sweater or my new dreadlocks. Every time I stole a glance at her, she would slowly remove her gaze from me. Deliberately if i may add. Tom couldn't care less as he was wolfing down his second kebab. Boy was he hungry.
Gradually, it was time to leave. Sam and Tom went to settle the bill. Before I could go to the washroom, I felt her hand tug my sleeve. I was mortified!
"What?"
"Let's meet on Saturday. We need to talk." She flashed her cheeky wink at me. But I was not falling for it. Not today.
"You are now engaged. It is impossible."
"Saturday. My place." That was final. Sam and Tom came back and we all left the hotel. Two days to go. Should I go or not?

NEXT: Sam isn't sure about Emma and I don't want to be the bearer of the bad news to him.
